I joined Toastmasters in October of 2016. I have served as Area 14 Director and as Division B Director for Maine. Other positions I have held are club President, VP Education and Secretary. This Club is a FUN, energized group. Glad to be a member!

Toastmasters didn’t just help me be a better speaker--it changed my life! The club experience offers different things for each of its members. Some come to build confidence in speaking, listening, or presentation skills. Some work at leadership development. For others it is an outlet for writing and creative expression. It’s all there for the taking.

Singer, Retiree
I joined my first club at the invitation of my daughter. Walking into that first meeting, I was greeting with such warmth and friendliness that I wanted to come back. As a retiree, I feel one is never too old to learn something new. I have never had a challenge with singing in front of groups of people, but speaking was entirely different. I found this was a great group of people to be involved with, to learn, grow and make friends. I am forever thankful that I walked in to my first meeting. I am thrilled to belong to The Maine Thing.

I have been a member of Toastmasters since April 1st 2015 (no joke). I joined a corporate club where I work: Frontline Speakers. My boss was visiting when Frontline was having their annual membership drive. She saw the sign and said “sign up for Toastmasters. It will be a development goal on your performance appraisal”. And that was that. A fun fact: I was born at 6:00 am on an Easter Sunday morning. The only time in my life I willingly got up early. The club is called Frontline Speakers because we are an animal health company and Frontline is our product. -

Bob Bechtold, DTM
I have been in Toastmasters since 2010 and am a founding member of the MDI Toastmasters Club. I strive to continually improve my professional skills and help others do the same. To help improve my skills, I have held the following positions at least once since 2011; club President, VPE, VPM, VPPR, Secretary, SAA, District 45 Division B Director, and District 45 Club Coach Chair. I have also co-chaired two District 45 International Toastmaster Conferences.

Marion Taylor DTM³
Retired BSA
I have been a Toastmaster since March 2009 when I joined a corporate club being formed at work. I needed more confidence when communicating and found what I needed in the Toastmaster Toastmaster education program. My job included travelling for my company presenting software applications and speaking to a conference room full of people who would be using this application. Everyone has butterflies before speaking but it took Toastmasters to force my butterflies to fly in formation
